New A7 coastal motorway links Malaga & Granada

The existing A7 motorway has now been extended by 7 kilometres along the coast to link Malaga and Granada.

This is a safer, faster and more comfortable route between the two cities than the present N-340 which is mostly a single carriageway that is travelled by over 17,000 vehicles per day.

This new road cost 19 million euros per kilometere with the two kilometres between Lobres and Guadalfeo were paid for from European development funds. There are plans to build three other stretched along the coast. They will include a further extension of the A-7 between Plopos and Albuñol in December and another between Gorgoracha and Puntalón planned for March of 2015. The third between Carchuna to Castell is hoped to be in use by September 2015.

Further works on improving the road infrastructures of Andalucia include the building of A-44 motorway from Granada city to the coast, to be known as the Sierra Nevada-Costa Tropìcal highway, and several extensions to the Granada ringroad.
